Ginkgo Forest Winery celebrating ninth year
MATTAWA — Ginkgo Forest Winery will celebrate its ninth year of producing its Wahluke Slope AVA (American Viticultural Area) wines on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2-5, at its tasting room.
The winery tasting room is located about a mile and half north of Mattawa on state Route 243. It’s within view of the highway.
“We opened the winery at the end of August 2007 and discovered that being open over Labor Day Weekend was great timing,” co-owner Mike Thiede said.
Desert Aire and nearby campgrounds are full with end-of-the-summer weekenders. The Dave Mathews Band is playing at the nearby Gorge Amphitheatre.
As a result, out-of-town visitors and travelers are at a peak level in the Desert Aire-Beverly corridor.
To mark their second year of business, Ginkgo Forest Winery owners Mike and Lois Thiede held a unique anniversary sale, which they have repeated every year since.
Two years ago, Ginkgo Forest Winery added an anniversary dinner on Saturday night to round out the four-day wine event. Cost of the dinner, which includes a Tri-Tip steak with all the trimmings, music and the first glass of wine with a complimentary glass, is only $20.
Tickets can be purchased at the Winery’s Tasting Room or with a credit card over the phone at 509-932-0082. Wine-drinking guests must be 21 or older, but sodas and water are available for younger party-goers.
The evening will include after dinner dancing to music provided by DJ Ivan and Matt. Guests may provide their own music and entertainment with karaoke singing.
To accommodate all visitors at the winery during this event, the tasting room will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. for the entire weekend.
Imitating the success of the two-buck chuck wine, the sale features the purchase of one case of wine at full price and the second, of equal or lesser value, for just $2 a bottle.
That’s just one buck over half price for both cases if they are of the same value.
“The sale is a great time for organized wine lovers to buy ahead for that upcoming wedding, office party or other special event,” Thiede said.
