How can anyone back Trump after assassination threat?

I’m not a reporter or a public figure but it doesn’t take a person of intelligence to know that Donald Trump made a threat to Hillary Clinton on national TV to be taken out, assassinated. How desperate are Republicans that back such a nominee for president? This is no joke; throughout history we’ve lost great men: Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X. Stop making excuses for such a man.
