OTHELLO — An Othello woman died and a man and small child were injured Monday when a car and truck collided on Highway 24, three miles south of Othello.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Connor W. Paysse, the collision occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hatton Road and 24.

All vehicle occupants were employing proper safety restraints, and neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor, Paysse reported.

The deceased woman is Paula Gonzalez Navarrete, 33, of Othello.

She died at the scene.

Gonzalez Navarrete was driving a black 2008 Nissan Sentra. It was removed by Oscar’s towing.

One of the injured was Ruby Alvarado Gonzalez, 2, of Othello, a passenger in the same car. She was transported to Othello Community Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Also injured was Peter B. Maxwell, 36, of East Wenatchee, driver of a white 2000 Peterbilt. He was taken to Othello Community by ambulance.

The truck was removed by Agrifix Towing.

According to Paysse, the collision occurred when Gonzalez Navarrete attempted to enter Highway 24 eastbound from Hatton Road.

Making a left turn onto the highway, Paysse reported, Gonzalez Navarrete failed to yield right of way to the truck, which was westbound. The truck struck the car at the driver’s side door.

The cause of the collision was still under investigation Tuesday morning.
