MOSES LAKE — An elderly man died Thursday, Aug. 8, as the result of a two-car collision about two miles south of Moses Lake at Highway 17 and Potato Frontage Road, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The deceased is Warren Hansen, 90, of Othello. He died at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, the WSP reported.

Hansen was driving a gray 1987 Chevy Nova. The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m.

According to the WSP trooper on the scene, Daniel Muñoz, Hansen was making an “improper” left turn from Baseline onto 17 when the collision occurred.

Hansen’s Nova “had not cleared the turn,” Muñoz said, before it was struck on the driver’s side by a southbound green 1997 Jeep Wrangler on 17. It was driven by Codee H. Cornell, 21, of Moses Lake.

Muñoz reported that neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor. Both drivers were employing their seat belts.

The crash ended with the vehicles blocking both lanes of traffic. The Nova was impounded to the Moses Lake bullpen.
