13-15 River Dogs lose heart-breaker at World Series
WILLISTON, N.D. — The River Dogs’ 13- 15-year-old squad lost another heart-breaker at the Babe Ruth World Series in Williston, North Dakota.
Down 3-0 to Atlantic Shore entering the seventh inning, Columbia Basin loaded the bases and scored twice on wild pitch and a single by Evan McLean. A second runner tried to come around and score on McLean’s hit, but was thrown out at home to end the game 3-2.
Columbia Basin (0-2) was unable to chase Middle Atlantic starter Nick Atohi, who pitched a perfect game with four strikeouts. River Dogs pitcher Vance Alvarado attempted to match Atohi’s performance and threw 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on six hits.
Atlantic Shore took the lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Nicholas Abrams. Atlantic Shore added one run each in the third and fifth inning.
Dominic Signorelli led the River Dogs with two hits and one run scored.
Columbia Basin will try to pick up its first win of the World Series today, 11:30 a.m., against the North Dakota State Champion.
