WILLISTON, N.D. — Columbia Basin’s youngsters couldn’t solve Southeast’s Brandon Fristoe in its 2-0 loss to open the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-15 World Series.

Fristoe pitched 5 1/3 innings with a game-high five strikeouts. Southeast took advantage of four errors by Columbia Basin, scratching out two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The River Dogs scattered three hits, two coming off the bat of starting pitcher Dalton Kentner. Kentner kept the deficit manageable, throwing 6 1/3 innings with four strikeouts, however Columbia Basin’s offense was stymied by Southeast.

Southeast’s Victor Castillo recorded the lone RBI of the game.

Columbia Basin continues pool play today, 11:30 a.m., against Middle Atlantic.
