OTHELLO — The Othello Barracudas finished seventh in the recent Mid-Valley League swim championships at Grandview, but there were notable individual successes.

The Mid-Valley League Championships were the biggest swimming events the Othello Barracudas took part in this summer. More than 1,000 competitors from all seven league teams took part in the 74 different races over the three days.

As many as 35 swimmers were entered in many of the events. Othello did not travel with a full team. Many of the Barracudas had other summer time commitments.

The 20 Barracudas who did compete finished a distant seventh as a team, even though the Othello girls outscored their Naches counterparts and a number of individual Barracudas had an outstanding meet.

Champs had two sets of finals, an A final for the swimmers with the eight fastest preliminary times and a B final for the next eight fastest prelim times.

Just making the A finals was considered a major accomplishment. Five Barracudas made the A finals, three of them did so in more than one event.

Aram Borba finished fourth in the backstroke, fifth in the freestyle and eighth in the backstroke in the boys 8-U age group.

Cain Muro finished fourth in the butterfly, fifth in the freestyle and eighth in the backstroke in the boys 9-10 age group.

Daniel Martinez earned a fifth place in the butterfly and sixth place in the backstroke and breaststroke in the boys 13-14 age group.

Logan Hollenbeck finished eighth in the breaststroke in the boys 13-14 age group.

Madison Douglas finished fifth in the breaststroke and 14th in the butterfly in the girls 11-12 age group.
