County commissioner candidate Nathan Pack found guilty of DUI
MOSES LAKE — Grant County Commissioner District No. 2 candidate Nathan Pack, R-Moses Lake, was found guilty of DUI by a Grant County District Court jury on Tuesday.
The jury determined that Pack, who secured a spot on the November general election ballot during last week’s primary, was driving drunk during a incident on Aug. 18, 2015. The six-person jury also found that following his arrest for DUI on Aug. 18, Pack refused to submit to a breathalyzer test that was requested by a Moses Lake Police Department Officer to determine if he was under the influence.
On Aug. 18, Pack and two of his friends were gambling and drinking alcohol at Papa’s Casino in Moses Lake and became rowdy and started bothering other patrons in the casino, according to information released during court Tuesday. Pack was asked to leave the business and escorted out of the casino by a security officer. He was later spotted by several witnesses, and on video surveillance, driving his vehicle in the parking lot outside of the casino.
Pack parked his car in the parking lot and was approached by two MLPD officers. The officers testified in court on Tuesday that Pack displayed several indicators that pointed to him being highly intoxicated. When he was contacted Pack stated that he was not driving the vehicle and he refused to take standardized field sobriety tests. He was arrested for DUI and transported to the MLPD station, where he decided not to take a breathalyzer test.
Grant County District Court Judge Janis Whitner-Moberg set Pack’s sentencing for Sept. 22.
