Grant County Sheriff seeks to improve community bond

GRANT COUNTY — Sheriff Tom Jones has announced a special campaign to help bring citizens and law enforcement closer together.

Citizens Uniting with Blue (CUB) is a project he and former sheriffs hope will strengthen the relationship the public has with law enforcement.

“The goal of this program is to build trusting relationships with our citizens,” Jones said. “As a symbol of that trust, we will be providing residents of Grant County a blue light bulb to display on or in their homes as a sign of unity and support. This campaign is not about picking sides, but rather partnering with the citizens that we serve.”

Joining Sheriff Jones at the announcement were retired sheriffs John Young and Felix Ramon. Former sheriffs Frank DeTrolio and Bill Weister were unable to attend.

The Paul Lauzier Foundation of Ephrata has provided funding for the purchase of 4,000 blue light bulbs which will be given away at several locations across Grant County.

“The Paul Lauzier Foundation is honored to join Sheriff Tom Jones and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in creating the Citizen’s Uniting with Blue program,” said Mike Tabler, Executive Director and Trustee of the Paul Lauzier Foundation.

“The program is an expression of mutual respect and trust between the citizens of Grant County and our local law enforcement agencies and emergency services providers,” he added. “We hope this positive message inspires others to join the people of Grant County, Sheriff Jones and the Paul Lauzier foundation in promoting strong community relationships between law enforcement and the people it protects.”
