PULLMAN — Fifteen Washington high school seniors , including girls from Mattawa, Othello and Royal City, will participate in the Aug. 6 Distinguished Young Women Washington scholarship program at Washington State University.

More than $10,000 in college scholarships will be awarded at the state program.

The program will take place in the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. Local DYW participating include Megan Yorgesen of Mattawa, Wendolyn Rivera of Othello, and Ellie Thyssen of Warden.

The judging panel will be Pam and Victor Renard, of Kennewick, whose daughter Nicole was Washington’s winner and national program winner in 2013; Megan Weed, Seattle, runner-up for Pullman’s title in 1993; Nicole Flansburg, Palouse, an active Whitman County resident and Crissy Greenberg, Tumwater, first alternate in Pullman’s 2001 program.

The contestants will arrive Tuesday (Aug. 2)) to begin practicing several stage routines that will highlight the 7 p.m. program. Shirley Sears, Pullman, is program choreographer.

According to Danielle Kallaher, program co-chair, each participant will perform a talent number and participate in fitness and self-expression routines during the evening program. The teens will meet individually with a panel of judges earlier.

Tickets are available through TicketsWest outlets and at the door before the program.
