ROYAL CITY — Royal High had a strong week in soccer just before the spring break. The Knights won twice and tied once.

The tie came against defending state champion Highland, 0-0. The victories were over Granger, 2-1, and Mabton, 2-0.

Royal’s overall record improved to 6-1-1, and the SCAC mark stands at 2-1.

Because of the spring break, Coach Jens Jensen had few details to share. The Granger results were reported last week.

The margin of victory in the Mabton contest made things look tight, but Royal controlled all of the way defensively. It won with defense against a team that posed little threat.

“Mabton has a small group this year, and while they have a handful of good players, they do not have the supporting cast they need to make a push,” Jensen said.

There was little to report about the Highland match. Both defenses pitched a shutout.

“It was our third match of the week and their fourth,” Jensen said. “Both teams played fairly conservative, and the result reflected heavy legs. It was an even affair.”
