ROYAL CITY — Patrons of the Royal School District will get a chance to tour the latest big investment – the brand new Royal Intermediate School – they’ve made in education on Monday, Sept. 28.

Started in the spring and constructed mostly in the summer, Royal Intermediate started serving third, fourth and fifth graders the first day of fall classes.

“I like our new school because it has a full size gym, a new playground with fun toys, the doors remain locked during the day and DOJO (a points system that leads to rewards) has been really fun,” a student said.

There are 411 students and 38 staff members at the new school. The enrollment is well below capacity.

The official opening will be celebrated by the school board, the administration and teachers with a ribbon cutting. And the entire Royal Slope public is invited.

According to Royal Intermediate School Secretary Krista Smith, there will be a ceremony with dignitaries between 6:30-7:15 p.m.

The ceremony will take place in the courtyard of the Intermediate School, next to the gymnasium. Cookies and punch will be served. After the ceremony, the building will be opened for self-guided tours.

“We are so thankful to the community for their support in making our new school a possibility,” Principal Linda Achondo said. “It is beautiful and we would love for everyone to have a chance to see it.”
