Reader appreciates story on new judge
Thank you so much for your article on Judge David G. Estudillo.
In this day and age, I would expect some people to claim that Gov. Inslee appointed the only Hispanic he could find with a law degree.
Your article, especially about the background of the Estudillo family, should end any of that kind of thoughts by any normal person.
My experience in the workplace with Hispanics has been that, as an Anglo, I’m embarrassed by the lack of work ethic and productivity of many of my fellow “Gurus.”
My dad managed a migrant labor housing facility during summer near Nampa, Idaho for many years. He commented one day that when the children laughed or cried, you couldn’t tell what language they were using, Spanish and English. It sounded the same.
He said that perhaps that was God’s way of trying to teach us something. He also said that if he ever had to live in such close quarters, that he hoped his neighbors were Mexicans and not whites.
My great-grandfathers and one grandmother were immigrants to this country. So I have some family background, with the stories I’ve heard of the adventures of being in a new land with a strange language.
It’s encouraging to know that Judge Estudillo has the family values he has. Thanks again for sharing that. We all needed to hear a success story.
