SOUTH COUNTY — Tom Hinde, who was the publisher of The Royal Register during 2014-15, will take over as publisher of the Borger News-Herald in Borger, Texas on Sept. 1.

Hinde is elated about the opportunity for two primary reasons. He trained for years to be a publisher, and much of his family, including his ailing mother and father, lives in Texas.

Hinde’s assignment at The Royal Register came after several years as director of circulation for the Columbia Basin Herald.

“I’ll sure miss the wonderful people of Grant County,” Hinde said.

Hinde said the best time he ever had in the news business was serving as publisher of The Royal Register and the Weekly TV and Entertainment Guide for South Grant County and Kittitas County.

“I never considered it a job because it never felt like work to me,” he said. “This is a beautiful area, filled with some of the most productive and nicest people I’ve ever met.”

But Hinde is looking forward to publishing the Borger News-Herald. He plans to develop this opportunity into a long career.

“This is what I’ve always wanted to do,” Hinde said. “I’m thankful to Heritage Publications, parent company of the Borger News-Hearld, and I am excited about going to Texas,” Hinde said.

“I’ve been there a few times lately to visit my father and mother,” he added. “I also visited old friend and colleague Harlan Beagley from the CBH days. I saw many leisure and recreational things to do, and I plan to take advantage.”

The Borger News-Herald will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year. It was founded the same year as the city of Borger, 1926.
