Esta Emogene (Swearengin) Tate

Esta Emogene (Swearengin) Tate, 88, a longtime resident of Moses Lake passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015 at Brookdale at Hearthstone. Viewing was held from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday, September 2 at Kayser’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 at the Assembly at Moses Lake Church, 431 E. Brown Ave., Moses Lake. Interment will follow at Pioneer Memorial Gardens. Esta Emogene was born Feb. 10, 1927 in Elkhead, Mo.; daughter of John and Mary (Maggard) Swearengin. She married Harold “Pete” Tate on Jan. 11, 1946 in Sultan, Wash. where they continued to live for the next couple of years, then returned to Springfield, Mo. to live until 1959. At that time, they moved back to Washington, living in Everett, Renton and Issaquah prior to moving to Moses Lake in 1967, and lived here since. She is survived by five children, Dan Tate and wife Tess, David Tate, Judy Cole and partner Robert DuBois, Joyce Wagner and husband Derryck, and Harold Tate; two stepsons, Joe Tate and wife Charlotte, and Bobby Tate.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, John Cole, Brenda Cole, Patti Cole, Sherrie Armstrong, Heather Cooper, Tina Cooper, Wylie Cooper and Janessa Dizmang; plus 14 great-grandchildren and her only great-great-grandchild, Jaxon.

Esta Emogene was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Harold “Pete” Tate, one stepson Jerry Tate, and all her 11 siblings.

Esta Emogene was known for her beautiful smile. She fought a difficult battle with diabetes and all it’s complications her entire life, but she was brave and made all the right choices. She enjoyed sharing her quiet home for many years with son David, her main “helper.” She also has enjoyed gardening, her pets and had a passion for her oil painting and was a well known artist in the area for many years.
