Opening-day report still not available

As of this writing, Thursday, Oct. 29, Fish and Wildlife could not provide a report of the results of the opening weekend of deer, duck, goose or the other hunting seasons.

“It will be some time before we have the results,” the man at the wildlife division said. “Hunters have until Jan. 31 to make their report.”

“Doesn’t Fish and Wildlife have check stations?” I asked.

“Yes we do.”

“Well, what are the figures?”

“We don’t have those figures.”

“For Heaven’s sake, why not,” I wondered, but didn’t vocalize. I told him I wasn’t chewing him out, but the public wants to know this information and they are entitled to know.

It is difficult for me to understand why an opening-day-hunting report isn’t available two weeks after opening day. Frustrated, yes, I’m frustrated.

However, here is my personal report: Four hunters in my party filled five of the eight deer tags available.
