Tough week in soccer for Wahluke ladies
MATTAWA — Last week was tough on the Wahluke High School soccer program, with four losses. But the Warriors are not out of the playoff race.
The Warriors are 2-5 in the contest for third place (and the playoffs) The other three teams vying for that spot have only three wins.
Why the Warriors have gone into a tailspin is anybody’s guess. They started the season hot with a 4-1 overall record.
“I wish I could answer that, but I can’t,” coach Arthur DeVictoria said. “We’re still in it, but we have to win.”
The Warriors host Warden today and Kiona-Benton on Thursday.
Last week started with a 3-0 loss to Cle Elum. There was hardly any offense to speak of.
The second game was a good one. Evenly matched, the Warriors and Royal went into overtime tied, 1-1.
Wahluke was called for a handball in the last minute of the extra period, and Royal cashed in the penalty kick to win.
The third loss was to Granger, 1-0 at Granger. The Spartans got revenge for a 2-0 loss to Wahluke earlier.
“It was a tough game that we expected to win, but things did not drop for us,” DeVictoria said.
“We had some of our JV players playing with us because there was no JV game, and I wanted to give the JV players some playing time,” DeVictoria said.
