As of this writing, Thursday, Oct. 22, Fish and Wildlife could not provide a report of the results of the opening weekend of deer, duck, goose or the other hunting seasons.

However, the Quintz Whitaker hunting party was successful. Here is a report from Quintz Whitaker:

Kason’s, 9, shot his first deer and coyote last weekend. It was a great weekend of hunting with his Uncle Jared and I.

We were hunting near Creston. The coyote was shot Saturday around 10 a.m. while it was out prowling at about 50 yards. One well placed shot through the shoulder put him down.

Kason was using a single shot .243 with 100 gr. bullets loaned to him by his cousin, Kade Michael. The same combination worked out well on Sunday also. At around 7:30 a.m. a beautiful whitetail buck and some does wandered past us at about 80 yards and went down again with a single shot.

Kason gutted part of the deer himself, helped skin it and we are now cutting and packaging the meat as well. This was an awesome learning experience for a young hunter. I am truly blessed to have been a part of a moment that Kason and I will remember forever.

Dennis note: Way to go, Kason. Great first deer or any deer for Heaven’s sake. I count it as a 5- by 4-pointer, but if the one point on the eye guard is an inch long, it will be a 5- by 5-pointer. Great to see a father and son team creating memories which will last a lifetime.mayb
