Lorraine Grav

| October 26, 2015 1:45 PM

Lorraine Grav was born on Feb. 2, 1934 at home in Marion, S.D. to Clyde Handwerk and Flossie Westfall Handwerk. Lorraine was married to Harlan K. Hinders in 1950 in Sioux Falls, S.D., where they had three daughters.

Lorraine was a homemaker who worked many jobs including as a dental assistant. She married Gary Alan Grav in 1968. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. where she was a foster mother to many children. Lorraine and Gary moved to Washington in 1975 and lived outside Issaquah for many years until moving to Moses Lake in 1991. Lorraine was a strong, loving caregiver to Gary through his many health problems until his death in 1993.

Despite her lack of higher education, Lorraine never stopped reading and learning. She was open-minded and intelligent. She took in strays, both human and animal. She was happiest cooking for family and friends. She fed the neighbors and her candy dish was always full for the many kids and adults who called her “Grandma”. She loved country music and was a wonderful dancer.

Mom survived both colon and breast cancer. We are grateful to Dr. Graham and the staff at Moses Lake Clinic for their many years of care. Thank you to the staff at Brookdale Hearthstone for their care and support this past year.

Lorraine is survived by her brother, Robert Handwerk of Sioux Falls, S.D., her three daughters, Roxanne Jerentowski of Moses Lake, Robin Alexander and Rhonda DeVito of Renton; her sons-in-law, Thomas Twede and Gary Alexander; her granddaughter, Liberty Stansberry and husband, Matthew of Franklin, Tenn.; her grandson, Jesse Jerentowski of Moses Lake and her great-granddaughter, Alexis Butler.

There will be a graveside memorial service at Pioneer Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 with a reception following at the home of Roxanne and Tom at 8150 Scott Road N.E. in Moses Lake. Anyone who knew Lorraine is welcome. Please sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory.
