Wahluke soccer stumbles three times
MATTAWA — It was simply not a good week for Wahluke High School soccer last week. The Warriors dropped three contests, and they did not score
The closest score was a 3-0 non-league loss to Highland. The other two were scores coach Arthur DeVictoria would rather forget.
The Warriors started the week at Connell, where the SCAC East favorites reside. The Eagles were good, and they administered a thumping.
“I believe that Connell has the MVP (Jessica Garcia) for our side of the league,” DeVictoria said. “She is quite dynamic and poised with the ball.”
The only complaint that DeVictoria had was that Connell played starters, including Garcia, through the 80th minute.
The second loss was to Highland, 3-0, and the third was to Cle Elum, by another score DeVictoria would rather forget.
DeVictoria was not too disappointed with the Highland match. Wahluke trailed only 1-0 at the 50-minute mark. The Warriors did themselves in partially by scoring an own-goal.
“We need to bounce back from this type of game,” DeVictoria said. “We are running our old set, and that might be our weak link right now. We have moved (sophomore) Elizabeth Bravo back into the defense, and that has brought out some different dynamics for our team.”
