Two from Quincy die in head-on crash on 281

QUINCY — Both drivers died at the scene and four other persons were injured when two cars collided head-on near milepost 7 on Highway 281 on Oct. 4 at about midnight.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred after the driver of one car swerved into the opposite lane. It was unknown at the time whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Both drivers were residents of Quincy.
Ernesto Nunez Espinoza, 26, drove the car that crossed the center line, according to the WSP. He was not using his seat belt.
Nunez Espinoza was driving a red 2001 Ford Mustang. It was impounded by Quincy Towing.
Claudia Garcia 37, was the driver of the second car, a black, 2004 GMC Yukon. She was using her seat belt. Davis towing of Schawana impounded the Yukon.
All of the passengers were in the Garcia vehicle. They were:
Salvador Gonzales, 48, no seat belt, airlifted to Confluence Health.
Melissa V. Gonzales, 15, using seat belt, transported by ambulance to Quincy Valley Medical Center.
Rosendo U. Gonzales, 10, wearing seat belt, transported by ambulance to Quincy Valley Medical Center.
Erlinda Gonzales, 9, using seat belt, transported by ambulance to QVMC.
According to the WSP, Nunez Espinoza was southbound on 281, and Garcia was northbound. Near milepost 7, Nunez Espinoza’s car crossed the center line and struck the Garcia car.
Nunez Espinoza’s car came to rest in the southbound lane facing south. Garcia’s car came to rest off the northbound shoulder facing north.
The State Patrol filed no charges.
