ROYAL CITY — Carlos Hernandez, who graduated from Royal High School last spring, has been awarded a wrestling scholarship to Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen.

“The program is just in the infancy stage, but we have a Royal wrestler on the college mats helping build the program,” Royal wrestling coach Randy Miller said.

“Carlos’s head coach, Phillip Pine, is encouraged by the turn out and expects a strong performance this year,” Milller added.

Carlos placed fifth at state last year at his weight. He plans to study diesel mechanics, which is a two-year program.

“The Royal Wrestling Program is excited and proud to see one of our own go on to the next level,” Miller said.

Hernandez won seventh, fifth and third place trophies at state.
