Lady Knights fall to Burbank

ROYAL CITY — Coach Paul Olsufka saw improvement once again last week in his volleyball team, but Burbank won the SCAC contest 25-6, 25-14, 24-12.

“Sometimes you just run into a team that is better,” he said.

Burbank has been better for several years. The Coyotes always seem to have the right combination of hitters, blocker, servers and setters.

“Burbank plays smoothly, never panics and keeps the ball in play,” Olsufka said. “This is something we have been striving for, keep it in play and let the other team make mistakes.”

The Knights were led by Taylor Freeman. She scored five kills, served 5-6 and scored an ace. Lindsey Small served 5-5 and scored two kills.

Server Allison Joslin went 5-5 at the line, put up 11 assists and scored one kill. Jacie Phillips served 7-8 and scored one kill.

Lizzi Miller had one kill on offense and three digs on defense. McDarra VonStein had two blocks for points.

“Good effort, not enough fire power,” Olsufka said. “Passing has improved, but again just not able to put the ball away when we give ourselves a chance.”

“That is what the game is about, who makes the least amount of mistakes,” Olsufka added. “Even though the scores were lopsided I felt the girls never gave up.”
