She was born on March 2, 1939 in Quitaque, Texas to Pedro and Alfonza Zamora Balderas. Pilar comes from a big loving family of seven brothers and four sisters. She was raised in Texas along with her siblings and worked alongside them in various field labors. She moved to Portales, N.M. and attended school there. Pilar met and married Juventino Alvarado and began her new adventures with him. They traveled throughout the U.S. earning a living and raising children. They moved to Moses Lake in 1970, making this their home for 45 years.

Mom was a homemaker and excellent seamstress, quilt maker. She loved cooking and spending time with her family; her joy was her children and grandchildren. She liked spending time with her husband and friends going to the casino. She had the most generous and loving heart and touched many with her loving presents. We especially love mom because she was always there for us, she was a good teacher and listener, always honest and direct, yet gentle and kind and never let us down. Despite the burden and pain from Parkinson’s, she lived her last years with exemplary courage, with as much dignity and grace as possible. She will forever be missed.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Juventino Alvarado; four daughters and two sons: Maria A. Huereca (Jose), Pilar A. Garza (Rod), Ruby A. Taylor, (Larry), Dolores A. Sanchez (Jorge), Juventino Alvarado, Jr. (Dorothy), Catarino Alvarado and fiancée Cyndy; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Lupe Ruby Marquez, Helen Gomez, Virginia Hines, Alfredo Balderas, Juana Gonzales, Pete Balderas and Gilbert Balderas.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Maria Susie Alvarado; her mother, Alfonza Zamora Balderas; brothers Fred Baldares, Gavino Balderas, Johnny Zamora and Ernesto Gurialles.

Mom, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure; you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. Our lives will never be same.
