Ardean Brent Child

January 5, 1942 – November 13, 2015

Ardean Brent Child, 73, former longtime resident of Quincy, Wash. passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at Silver Creek Memory Care Facility, in Gilbert, Ariz. following a several-year battle with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by his wife, Camille, and family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, in the Quincy, Wash. Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). The chapel is located at 1101 2nd Ave. Burial will follow at the Quincy Cemetery. Bishop Bruce Webley of Quincy will preside. The family will greet friends before the service at a viewing in the Relief Society Room beginning at 10 a.m.

Ardean was born Jan, 5, 1942, at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario, Oregon. He was the fourth child and third son of the late Arvel Lester and Ila Adams Child. At that time his family was living on a farm/ranch west of Vale, Oregon. When he was just over a year old, he moved with his family to Nyssa, Oregon, where he was reared on a big family farm and where he went to grade school and graduated from Nyssa High School. Ardean attended a couple of years at BYU-Provo. He loved horses and often pretended to be a cowboy. His favorite was a palomino named Beauty. He loved to fish and prided himself in a “big catch,” often with family. He was a super good organizer, often “organizing” a younger brother into doing his share of the weed pulling or beet hoeing. He learned to be an excellent farmer. He grew up with five brothers: Val, Keith, Reed, Lynn, and Gary, and one sister, Nani. He loved good music and loved singing. He sang the bass part in a Child Brothers Quartet, singing at many family and community events. He also learned to play the piano – somewhat.

After his marriage to Julieanne Crowley of Moses Lake, in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada, LDS Temple on Sept. 8, 1964, they settled in the Quincy, Wash. area where he farmed hundreds of acres, growing sugar beets, potatoes, corn, peas, and many seed crops. At one time he ventured and had a small herd of buffalo. Trying to keep them corralled was a real challenge, but one he seemed to enjoy – most of the time.

Ardean had a happy attitude toward life and helped many people to rise above their problems. He had a special talent for helping young people and served as Young Men’s leader in the LDS Church for many years. He served an honorable full-time two-year LDS mission to the southern states while a single young man. In later years he served on the Ephrata Stake High Council and as Bishop of the Quincy 1st Ward of the LDS Church for eight years.

After many years his beloved wife, Julieanne, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and in 1998 she passed away due to the complications of the disease. They had nearly 34 wonderful years together, being parents to five healthy children and another who passed away in infancy. After several years of being alone, Ardean met and married a wonderful lady in the year 2000, Camille Nelson. Ardean and Camille were married for 15 years. She had seven children that he embraced as his own. He and Camille lived in Texas, near family, until Alzheimer’s Disease began to take its toll on him. Together they served three Humanitarian LDS Church Missions; Houston, South Africa, and Jamaica. They then moved to Arizona where he spent the last few years of his life in a memory care facility.

He is survived by his sweet wife Camille, and her seven children; his own children: Lisa (James) Watson and their three children, Courtney, Jimmy and Kylie of Spring, Texas; Jamie (Bob) Keys and their three children, Cameron, Felicity and Kelsey of Rock Springs, Wyo.; Mandy (Eric) Masters and their daughter Makayla of Mesa, Ariz.; Sara (Travis) Palmer and their five children, Ethan, Garrett, Gage, Ella and Graham of Moses Lake, Wash. and David (Jaclyn Risenmay) and their six children Dean, Ila, Julieanne, Joan, Jane and Brent of Ellensburg, Wash.; his brothers and spouses, Keith and Kathie Child, and Lynn and Janice Child of Quincy, Wash.; Reed and Paula Child of Pasco, Wash.; Gary and Julie Child of Post Falls, Idaho; his sister Nani and Spencer Beus of Grand View, Idaho; and a sister-in-law, Marion Child of Caldwell, Id. also a host of extended family throughout the world. He was preceded in death by his beloved Julieanne, his parents, an older brother, Val; and an infant daughter, Charmaine. He leaves a legacy of five children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren and 20 step-grandchildren, all of whom he was very thankful for and he cherished each of them.

He was a great man and will be dearly missed by all.
