September 19, 1921 – October 31, 2015

Metha Marie Jensen Garrett passed away on Oct. 31, 2015 at home after a short battle with lung cancer, never having smoked a day in her life.

Metha was born September 19, 1921 in Custer, Mont. Her parents were Marinus Jensen, born in Denmark and Gertrude Bradley Jensen, born in Kentucky. In 1936 Metha and her family moved to Heron, Mont., where she lived with her three brothers, Arthur, Norman and Leonard, and two sisters Margie and Bernice, all of whom have passed.

Metha graduated from Rogers High School in Spokane in 1939, then moved to Seattle. There she worked as a secretary before traveling to Washington, DC before the war. After the war she married and settled back in Seattle and started a family.

Metha lived for a time in Yakima, Wenatchee, Old Vantage and Schawana. There she started driving bus. In 1963 she finally settled in Quincy where she drove bus for 20 more years, retiring from the Quincy School District.

Upon retirement, Metha and her husband Don Garrett traveled around the country seeing the sights and fishing every chance they got. Don passed away in 1991.

Metha was very active in Quincy having as many as three jobs at once. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling and dancing, her beautiful yard full of flowers, a good book and loved the gingerbread season with her daughter Teri. She joined many clubs and in her later years had a full schedule with book clubs, exercise classes and her regular Thursday night dinners with good friends at the senior center.

Metha’s favorite times were with her family of four children, Jack (Trudy) Koeneman and Mark (Mo) Koeneman, all of Heron, Mont.; Shari (Tay) Conrad of Spokane, Wash., and Teri (Bill) Harwood of Quincy Wash.; her grandchildren, Jeph, Ron, Levie, Bobbie, and Lena of Montana, Lennie of California, Browyn of Kansas, Dane, Carl, Shanie, Jolene, Kelly and Jerrod of Washington; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Scharbach’s Funeral Chapel in Quincy, Nov. 11, and her internment will be in Heron Mont. in the spring. The family would like to thank everyone who attended and sent flowers and cards. Metha will be missed by so many.
