Jan was born in Bremerton, Wash. on Aug. 4, 1941 to Vern & Ruth Malek. In 1969, while working at Boeing, she met the love of her life, Clyde Smith of Selby, S.D. In 1977, Clyde, Jan and the kids made the big journey to move to Royal City, where they raised five children and four grandchildren.

Jan loved being a stay-at-home mom. She loved reading, painting, crocheting, her flowers and her Seattle Mariners, but the most important was her family.

Jan, we will remember your smile, your warmth, your strength and your love.

Janice is survived by husband Clyde Smith of Royal City; children Debbie Dunn (Dirk) of Quincy, Teri Moss (Randy) of Kennewick, Tim Andersen of Royal City, Bryon Smith (Kristina) of Royal City, Nic Delay of Royal City, Drew Delay (Ashley) of Moses Lake, Justin Delay of George and Katreena Delay of Spokane; mother-in-law, Stella Smith of Selby, S.D.; brother Mike Malek of Kent, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Ruth Malek; brother and sister-in-law Bob and Kathy Malek; daughter and son-in-law Tina and Shane Delay; daughter-in-law Denise Andersen and father-in-law, Paul Smith.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Dakota really misses you, Mom.

Mom, every time I see a star in the sky, I will talk to you.

Every time I see a rainbow, I will smile to you

And every time I shed a tear, I’m sending my love to you.
