George Moreno

| November 11, 2015 12:45 PM

October 14, 1948 – November 8, 2015

George Moreno, longtime resident of Moses Lake, Wash., passed away Sunday Nov. 8 with family at his side.

Born Jose Jorge Moreno Hernandez to Jose and Conception Moreno on October 14, 1948 in Valle de Santiago, in the heart of Mexico. George was the 5th of 11 siblings. The Moreno family traveled all over the country as part of the tight knit migrant community.  From the farm lands of North Dakota to the borders of Texas, and back up to Washington.

1968 was a big year for George. Not only did he join the army, but he married his love, Mary Lou Moncada, who was introduced to him by her brother Whicho. Shortly after getting married their first son Michael Moreno was born in 1971. Through their 45 year long marriage George and Mary Lou had 5 children: Michael, Mark, George Jr., Michelle, and Olga.

George took quiet comfort in mowing the grass, changing the water and building at his ranch. He loved taking his kids for drives out at the sand dunes in their brown Bronco and enjoyed treating them to pizza at Chico's after each Seahawks win.

But most of all George and Mary Lou lived their entire year looking forward to vacations to Texas where they would dance the night away to tejano music in smoky honky tonk bars.

George was lucky enough to have worked side by side with his wife Mary Lou for over 20 years at Samaritan Hospital. You could always count on seeing them walking hand in hand to lunch. It was a highlight of his job to be able to jump in his work truck and visit the other healthcare facilities and shoot the breeze with all his friends.

George was the center of his family and held them together after the passing of Mary Lou earlier this year.

In his final months, his grandkids are what kept him going and he was blessed to have had 14, with two great grandchildren as well.

George will be remembered for many things like his funny jokes, his love of the Seahawks and a cold beer.  But mostly for his immeasurable love for his wife.

He is survived by his children: Mike and Cassandra Moreno, Mark Moreno and Cindy Corral, George Jr. and Kristin Moreno, Oscar and Michelle Hernandez, and Brandon and Olga Smith. His grandchildren include: Micheal, Halie, Esprit, Yvette, Cody, Rylee, Annabelle, Scarlet, Ivy, Tino, Oscar Jr., Mya, Samantha, Jude, Harrison, and great grandchildren, Aundrea and Avery, and numerous brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 11th  at Kayser’s Chapel from 3-7pm.  Funeral services will be at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Thursday, November 12th with a Rosary at 9:30am immediately followed by Mass at 10:00am. A luncheon at the LDS Church on Nelson, 1849 Nelson Rd. N.E., will follow.

Color Guard graveside service will be held at Guarding Angel Cemetery on Saturday November 14th, at 11am. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory.
