Wahluke finishes season, hosting camp for girls Saturday

MATTAWA — It was a tough season but, in some ways, a good one for the Wahluke High School volleyball team. They lost nearly all of their games but played better than in recent years.

The Warriors lost the two matches in six games, but they scored in double digits in all but one of the games. They used to struggle to get past five against good teams.

The last loss was to Royal, 11-25, 14-25, 20-25, on Tuesday. It was a tough loss for a team that wanted to close out with a win.

“In the past, playing Royal was one of our best competitions,” coach Rudi Hirai said. “Unfortunately, the team had a tough time getting into a rhythm and struggled to get momentum.”

The team had 26 digs. Selena Prudente led with 10. Prudente and Rebecca Ramirez each served 100 percent, going 10-for-10.

The first loss of the week was by 14-25, 8-25, 20-25 against Connell on Monday

The warriors played hard all three games. They were able to keep up with Connell in the third game and competed every play.

The team had better than 90 percent serving. Selena Prudente had 12 digs, Karla Gallaga and Rebecca Ramirez had five each, and Abby Yorgesen had three blocks

“It was a great season full of individual and team growth,” Hirai said.
