Speak up for public use of Crescent Bar Island
Grant County residents have just a few days to speak for public use of Crescent Bar Island. Deadline: May 31
The Grant County Public Utility Commissioners have reached a tentative settlement with the Crescent Bar leaseholders and, instead of having them leave, the PUD is extending their lease until 2052. The only place for public input is the size and shape of the proposed campground.
There are two options.
Option A: 55 camp spots on the very north end of the Island. Parking is limited and there is not as much room for day use such as family gatherings or high school reunions. The golf course remains.
Option B: 55 camp spots spread along the west side of the Island. The camp spots would be placed on the ground now used for the golf course. Much more room for the public use and more parking. The golf course is removed.
I have been able to obtain the 2013 financial report for Crescent Bar golf course. The 2013 net profit was, in fact, a $44,326 loss. If it operates consistently at a loss, my concern is that Grant County PUD ratepayers will be subsidizing the golf course to keep it operating. That is not how I want my rate money spent.
Now is the time to speak. Write a letter to Grant PUD, Attn: Lands & Recreation, P.O. Box 8878 Ephrata, WA 98823. Put your address on the letter and indicate your wishes for the Island. Grant County residents need to take charge of their public property for years to come. There are many golf courses but only one Crescent Bar built for Grant County residents.
Thank you for entering a vote. I urge you to vote Option B.
