Mardon woman 2nd runner-up at pageant
RENTON - Competing in a pageant for the first time in her life, Naomi Walker of Mardon was named 2nd runner-up at the Mrs. Washington International Pageant here on May 16.
The pageant was held at the IKEA Performing Arts Center. The prime sponsor was the American Heart Association.
"I was nervous at first but then felt very comfortable on stage once I was up there," Walker said.
The competition was held in front of five judges. The contestants were scored on fitness outfit, on-stage random question/30-second platform speech and evening gown.
"We had five change of clothes," Walker said.
Walker now goes on to the Ms. America International Pageant, which allows married, divorced or single candidates. It will be held in August in Brea, Calif., with three titles up for grabs.
"I will be looking for new business and personal sponsors for my national pageant," Walker said.
Walker said the experience was life changing. Her 14 year old daughter was there and was inspired by the Miss contestants in the accompanying pageant for singles.
"They all were so genuine and kind to her, and she decided she wants to get into pageantry," Walker said.
