Donations encouraged for new scholarship
Last year our son, Jackson, was privileged enough to receive Royal High School's inaugural Knight Award.
School Principal Matt Ellis, Assistant Principal Rick Follett, and School Secretary Janet Jack conceived the award to recognize one student each year who practices servant leadership and sets a quiet example to those around them.
This year's presentation will take place during the annual Senior Scholarship Night on May 26.
The ideal candidate will be a positive person who seeks to support and assist others. He or she will be someone who serves school, family, and community. He or she is willing to sacrifice for the betterment of others.
He or she demonstrates empathy and compassion for others. He or she exhibits leadership by helping to accomplish important tasks without having to be asked and without the need for personal recognition.
This combination of qualities and characteristics is rare and deserves acknowledgement. Each yearly recipient will have their name added to the plaque that will be displayed at the high school and receive a Knight statuette of their own to commemorate the award.
While clearly understanding that the honor of receiving the Knight Award stands on its own, we feel that an accompanying scholarship would be a worthwhile and deserved addition to the award. Beginning this year, the Michael and Becky Noftle family pledges to contribute a minimum of $500 in scholarship funds to the chosen recipient and will continue to do so throughout the existence of the award.
We feel the scholarship should be greater and ask other individuals and/or businesses who would like to participate to join with us to create a worthy scholarship that will make a significant positive impact on the continuing education of each recipient.
We only have about a week left to put something together. Please contact me at mnoftle@centurytel.net or 989-5955 with any questions.
