July 6, 1937 - May 16, 2015

Ovie "Kathleen" Schaffer, 77 years old, of Moses Lake, passed away May 16, 2015 at her home. Kathleen was born July 6, 1937 in Weeks, Ark. to Olin and Cora Martin. She was raised alongside her brother Kenneth and sister Mary. While in school Kathleen was rodeo princess and she continued to enjoy the local rodeos as long as she was able to.

In 1955 in Ritzville, Wash. Kathleen married Ernest G. Smith and then was blessed with four children, Katherine, Dennis, JoAnn, and Ron. Later in 1967 Kathleen remarried to Frank L. Schaffer in Colorado Springs, Colo. Not only did Frank gain a wife but he also gained a family and he cared and raised the children as his own. Since her husband was in the military Kathleen had opportunity to live in different states until they moved and settled in Othello, Wash. in 1974.

After the children grew and left home the grandchildren started to join the family. Kathleen had eight grandchildren: Christina, Sherrie, Melissa, Amanda, Brandon, Melinda, MaryAnn, and Danielle. The grandchildren then blessed her with 18 great-grandchildren whom were loved so dearly by her. Kathleen will be greatly missed by her children Katherine of Moses Lake, Dennis (Sheri) of Royal Slope, and Ron (Renny) of Moses Lake. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, brother Kenneth Martin of Fort Worth, Texas, and sister Mary Wykes of Moses Lake, Wash. Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband Frank in May of 2010 and daughter JoAnn in October 1998.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on May 21st, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello, Wash. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 22, 2015 at Church of Christ in Othello Washington with graveside services at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens in Othello.
