Mattawa woman among reserve academy grads

GRANT COUNTY - Seven candidates, including one from Mattawa, recently graduated from the reserve officer academy hosted by the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

Maybeline Pantaleon, who is the Mattawa Police Department's clerk, is working toward being a full-time line officer.

The reserve academy kicked off in early November and featured 22 weeks of instruction on patrol procedures, evidence law and handling procedures, traffic enforcement, collision investigation, report writing, communication skills, emergency vehicle operations, criminal law and search and seizure, according to the sheriff's office.

The seven candidates completed 330 hours of in-classroom instruction and hands-on training. All seven completed their final exam, as mandated and administered by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.

The graduates include: Deputy Erica Aldaco, Grant County Sheriff's Office; Deputy Anthony Coble, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Elizabeth Kallstrom, Grant County Sheriff's Office, Officer John Cruz, Quincy Police Department, Officer Nathan Wright, Ephrata Police Department, and Deputy Luis Jimenez, Grant County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office will be offering another reserve academy tentatively in January. It is accepting applications with reserve recruiting selection slated for late summer or early fall.
