ROYAL CITY - Anticipating the largest turnout ever, the Royal City SummerFest has asked the City of Royal City for help in directing additional electrical power to Lions Park.

The theme of SummerFest this year is Royal Reunion - 50 Years of Classes. It commemorates the history of Royal High School, which graduated its first class in 1965.

SummerFest will be held on July 10-12. Friday's events will be held at the high school. Saturday's parade and events will be held on Camelia St. and in Lions Park.

SummerFest Chairwoman Cara Hoyt spoke to the city council on April 21, requesting help from the City for a "permanent" solution to the difficulty in accessing electric power at the park. The City committed itself to making an attempt to accommodate the festival.

City Finance Director Greg Pike gave the treasury report for March, presenting the budget summary for the first quarter. He said revenue is at 20.8 percent and expenditures are at 16 percent. He said the loan for the Royal City Community Center will be paid off later this year.

Public Works Director John Lasen reported that the Fern Street water main construction projected would be completed before the end of April.

Lasen said city well No. 1 has been found to have problems. Further testing would be undertaken to determine if the pump is the problem. Booster no. 2 was reported to need a pump replacement.

The Council approved an agenda that included the Council meeting minutes of April 7, a payroll for April 15 in the amount of $21,842.06 and claims for April 21 in the amount of $12,195.09

The Council voted to repeal sections 2.36.030 - "accrual of vacation leave", 2.36.040 - "allowance of vacation leave", 2.36.050 - "scheduling vacation leave", 2.36.060 - "compensation for accrued vacation leave", 2.36.070 - "accrual and use of sick leave", 2.36.080 - "effective date and supervision of prior practices and agreements", and 2.36.090 - " city legal holidays" of the Royal City municipal code.

These policies are established by resolution and should not be codified, Pike said.
