Warriors baseball fall twice

MATTAWA - The Wahluke Warriors baseball team lost two tough games against league rival Connell (JV) last week, 10-3 and 8-5, but coach Dan Oppelt was pleased with the performance.

"The first game was a great deal closer than the score indicated," he said.

This is the second and final year Wahluke plays a JV schedule as it attempts to rebuild its program.

The game was tied at 3-3 through the top of the fifth inning. Wahluke surrendered four runs in the bottom of the fifth and another three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Wahluke highlights included fine play by Freshmen Erick Higuera and Carlos Delgado. Higuera went 2-3 at the plate with a double. Delgado added a base hit, walked, and drove in a run. Junior David Pineda stole three bases and scored two runs.

In the night cap, freshman Abraham Olivares went 1-1 with a walk and two RBI and did a stellar job defensively at second base. "Overall, the boys played two really solid games in the field with excellent infield play by Sergio Pineda, Jesse Heredia and Abraham Olivares," Oppelt said.
