ROYAL - Participants at the SummerFest Golf Tournament this year will get a whole new look at the golf course. Or maybe no look at all.

A glowball four-person scramble will be played after dark (9 p.m. shotgun) on Saturday, July 11. It will be preceded by a potluck dinner at 7:30 p.m. at the clubhouse.

The glowball tourney is the brainchild of Royal Golf Association President Elijah Perkins. He will be assisted by Pro Randy Puetz in setting up the course for that night.

According to Puetz, players will be using balls that glow in the night. The holes will be marked by glow sticks instead of pins.

"I'm excited," said golf course volunteer Georgene Ricker. "This is going to be a lot fun. I can't even imagine what it's going to look like."

Puetz suggests teams sign up early. The tourney will be limited to the first seven teams to pay.

The entry fee will be $120 per team. Riding carts will cost the normal fee.

An application for the tournament accompanies this story so that players my start signing up.

Puetz suggests that everyone who plans to play bring a flashlight to help finding lost balls, prevent cart accidents and identify player groups for the group hitting from behind.

Another tournament Puetz believes will be a good draw is the U.S. Open Day scheduled for Saturday, June 20. It will include a barbecue meal of hamburgers/hot dogs, beans, potato salad and soda.

The tournament will get under way with a 9 a.m. shotgun.

This tournament is open to men, women and juniors The entry fee will be $35 per person. That will cover the golf and the barbecue. Riding carts will cost the normal fee.
