Failure to yield leads to injury
MATTAWA - A Union Gap woman was hospitalized after her car was hit by a semi truck at the western entrance to Hanford on Saturday, the Washington State Patrol reported.
According to the WSP, Adela Cuevas Valdovinos, 51, was stopped in her 2012 Toyota Corolla at the stop sign where Highways 24 and 243 intersect. When she attempted to make a left-hand turn to head south, her car was struck by the northbound truck.
Cuevas Valdovinos was wearing her seat belt, but she was injured. She was taken by ambulance to Yakima Memorial Hospital. Her car was removed from the accident scene by Davis Towing of Schawana. It was totaled.
The driver of the brown Freightliner truck tractor was Paul E. Stout, 40, of Mattawa. He was wearing his seat belt and was uninjured.
The truck sustained reportable damage and was impounded by Davis Towing.
Cuevas Valdovinos was cited for "Fail to yield right of way." Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, the State Patrol said.
