Luella Alberta Fredrickson

August 24, 1923 - April 26, 2015

Luella Alberta Fredrickson passed away quietly at her home April 26 at the age of 91. Luella was born August 24, 1923 in Ryegate, Mont. to Albert and Clara Lewis.

At the age of three the family moved to Wyoming where Luella spent her early childhood. In 1942 they moved to the Washington coast, settling in Seattle. While in Seattle, Luella worked at Boeing. She learned to fly airplanes, stopping just short of getting her pilot's license. After the war Luella attended Seattle Pacific College and Eastern Montana Normal College of Education.

She began teaching in Jackson Hole, Wyo. where she learned to ski, made many friends, and met Lynn Fredrickson. His boss was married to her boss. Lynn and Luella married in Seattle, Nov. 3, 1951.

They were blessed with four children, twin sons, Tim and Tom, were born the next year in Jackson Hole. The family then moved to Seattle where their daughter, Carol, was born and a final moved to Moses Lake where daughter, Lynne Marie was born.

Luella was a dedicated mother and was happily involved in her children's activities; Boy Scouts, Campfire Girls, Girl Scouts, Little League, PTA, DeMolay mothers, 4-H with the horses and a Sunday school teacher.

Her dedication to her children was illustrated in many ways. A snake once came close to the house (the neighborhood was much wilder in those days). Assuming the snake was a threat to her beloved children; Luella grabbed a hoe and hacked it into tiny bits. It was later found that the snake was the neighbor's pet.

Luella was a talented and creative seamstress; she sewed many clothes out of necessity and later for the pleasure of creating decorative items and clothing for her loved ones; shirts, jackets, dresses, skirts and amazingly designed tee shirts.

Luella was member of the First Presbyterian Church for almost 60 years; she received comfort and joy from her faith. In 1971 she became active in Eastern Star Silver Sage Chapter and Order of Amaranth. She enjoyed making her gowns and visiting other groups around the state, serving as the Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Peninsula Garden Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution and for several years visited schools to talk about the Constitution, for which she was given an award by the mayor. She loved the Lunch Bunch who met monthly without any other obligation but fellowship and eating lunch. Shortly before her death she led her final meeting of the "House of Hearts", the name she gave to her home.

This sweet, joyful, naive, trusting, loving and loved woman who never gave up is deeply missed.

She is survived by her sons, Tom and Tim, daughter in law Cindy, daughter Carol, and daughter Lynne Best, and son in law Ken Best, and children of her heart Fred Harris, Paula Soria, and Deb Black, and her siblings-in-law, Leila Hansen, Beth Chugg, Carol Trott, Teresa and Jerry Fredrickson. Luella's family would to extend a special thanks to her neighbors who helped her so much in the last years; Maryann and Clyde Simmons, Christina and Cary Rowin.

Luella was a friend to everyone. We would like to invite you to a memorial celebration at 3910 Lakeshore Drive on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please pay it forward with acts of kindness.
