Don was born on August 15, 1923 in Nampa, Ida. to William Alexander and Emily Covington Grigg. He was one of six children; he had two brothers and three sisters. He moved to Harper, Ore. with his parents in 1937 where he graduated from high school in 1942.

During his junior year of high school, he went to work operating his father's bee business and completing school while his dad was recovering from an illness. He went to work at Hines Saw Mill for two years, where he brought his first paycheck home and took all of his siblings to the dentist for the first time. After two years at the saw mill, he was able to go into a partnership with his father.

In December of 1944 he married Betty Gale of Harper, Oregon and started his family. Don was involved in the Community School Board and was branch president of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for many years. He was elected and served as president of the Oregon Bee Association twice. Don was an avid outdoorsman who liked to hunt and fish and taught all of his sons how to enjoy the outdoors. Of his four sons, all of whom graduated from Harper High School, three of them joined him in his bee operation and the youngest became an accountant advising him of his finances to the end. He was always willing to give advice to many regarding the bee operations. In 1970 Don partnered with some other beekeepers, buying Silverbow Honey Company in Snohomish, Washington. The company was later relocated to Moses Lake, Wash. in 1990.

Don is preceded in death by his wife Betty Grigg, his son Martin Grigg, his parents William and Emily Grigg, his brother Frank Grigg and sisters Ila Kindall and Norma Wharton. He is survived by his sister Faye Jones, brother Sam Grigg, his sons Gary (Sallie), Steven, Allen (Peggy) and Morris (Kris), 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
