YAKIMA - The ESD 105 Regional High School Art Show is being held at the facilities of JA World in Yakima's Terrace Heights. It is the 42nd annual exhibit of the best creative work by ninth- through 12th-grade students.

The 2015 display of paintings, drawings, photography, sculptures, and jewelry had its opening reception on Sunday, March 8, in the JA World facility at 650 University Parkway in Yakima.

Entering pieces from Wahluke High School were David Torres, Audra Coulson, Rosalba Quiroz and Maricela Cruz-Lopez. Royal High students who entered pieces were Samantha Eilers, Vanely Ruiz, Morelia Juarez, Tenoch Velasquez and Ariana Cruz.

Awards were presented to five students whose work will advance to OSPI's statewide Superintendent's High School Art Show, which will be displayed at the Old Capitol Building in Olympia during April 6-May 28. The juror for this year's Regional Show is Carolyn Nelson, who chairs the art department at Heritage University.

Two of the local pieces not advancing to the OSPI show received the "ESD 105 Board Choice Award" and were purchased by the ESD 105 Board of Directors. They will be on permanent display as part of the ESD 105 student art collection inside the ESD 105 Conference Center at Yakima.

The Regional Show will be on display at JA World through Monday, March 16. JA World's regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The 2015 edition of the ESD 105 Regional High School Art Show includes 80 works created by 77 students from 19 regional high schools. Art teachers from public and private high schools throughout the ESD 105 South Central Washington region were invited to submit up to five pieces of their students' art for this year's exhibit.

The annual regional art show is sponsored by ESD 105 and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction as a means to support arts education and provide a venue for student artists to showcase their works.
