Judy was born on March 4, 1930, in Rexburg, Idaho, to J.H. Clayton and Almira Lewis. Their family moved to Blackfoot, Idaho when Judy was two years old. Judy worked at the Blackfoot City Library during her high school years and later at the Rick's College Library. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1948 after which she attended Rick's College where she met her future husband, Elwood Crawford Jones. After Judy and Crawford became engaged, Crawford decided to serve a mission for the LDS church. While on his mission Judy worked for a doctor in Blackfoot and at the First Security Bank. After Crawford returned from his mission they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 28, 1952.

Crawford was drafted into the Signal Corp ten days after they were married and they were stationed in San Luis Obispo, California and Augusta, Georgia. Following his release, they moved to Moscow, Idaho where Crawford attended the University of Idaho, receiving his Bachelor and Master's degrees in Ag Economics. After Crawford's graduation they moved to Spokane, where Crawford worked for the Bank for Coops. They then returned to Blackfoot and worked in the potato granule industry. In his work Crawford traveled the world while Judy stayed home with their six young children at that time.

In 1965 they moved to the Moses Lake area where Crawford was instrumental in building potato plants and was involved in a coop of growers.

In 1970 Crawford started his farming operation, and Judy kept the farm's financial records.

Judy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions. After retirement, she and Crawford served two missions for the church. They served in the Guadalcanal - Solomon Islands mission from 1995-1997. They served a second mission to the Nauvoo, Illinois mission 1997-2000. She served as a temple ordinance worker in the Seattle and Columbia River temples.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, and brother. She is survived by her husband Crawford and their 7 children: Martha Kaye (Gary) Hills, Stephen Theone (Diane) Jones, Daniel Clayton (Dee) Jones, Lorraine (Leon) Baker, Sarah Ann (Scott) Bedke, Ruth Elaine (David) Cammack, and Rachel Diane (Gordon) Rencher, 27 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
