Basin anglers successful

Anglers around the Columbia Basin have been successful in recent days. Martha Lake was the only water with partial failure.

The creel counting lady told us there were a few limits caught, but by far it was the worst opening for Martha Lake since she had been counting and her counts have been conducted for years.

Some anglers even left without catching a fish, an uncommon for Martha on opening day.

Moses Lake is another story. We counted 21 boats north of the I-90 Bridge and 15 south of the bridge. Perch was the fish of choice, but some trout were being caught on the south side.

Limits of good-sized perch, up to 16 inches, were reported. Jack Goodwin and his girlfriend, Amber, fished with an unnamed buddy to catch three limits of perch north of the I-90 Bridge recently. Plus they have caught limits on numerous days.

Jack says to start with a worm or grub and then switch to perch meat.
