David Johnson

October 27, 1930 - February 25, 2015

David Johnson, 84, passed away the evening of Wednesday the 25th of February in Moses Lake, Washington.

In 1930, Dave was born in New York City, and grew up in Maine among his 3 siblings. In 1950 he joined the Navy where he was stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. He served for 23 years, during both the Korean and Vietnam wars.

While stationed at Whidbey Island, Dave met Alvena Currit, and in 1952 the two were married. They had two daughters, Margaret (Peggy) and Laura. Dave retired as Petty Officer First Class in 1973.

The Johnson family moved to the Columbia Basin, where Dave worked in irrigation for Lad Irrigation, Desert Rain, and in his own company. He also worked in real estate, farming, cooking, writing, and teaching at Big Bend Community College.

Dave loved people, reading, and learning. He was an Elks Lodge member, taught himself to program computers, and shared books with everyone he could loan them to. He loved fishing, hunting, cooking, camping, telling stories, and mostly being with his family.

David is survived by his wife, Alvena; brother, Paul Johnson of Maine, daughters, Margaret (Peggy) LeFave of Ephrata and Laura Smith of Othello; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held March 9 at 2:15 at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA, where his remains will be interred. A reception will follow at Medical Lake City Hall.
