Kai Jenks wins Knight Award
ROYAL CITY - The second annual Knights Award was presented to Kai Jenks at Royal High School's Senior Night on May 26.
Also announced were the scholarships known to have been awarded at that time. They included a huge haul of more than $78,000 for Robin Grant. The total for the class was more than $264,000.
"I'm sure there are more scholarships that some students did not report at the time," counselor Mark Kondo said.
Senior Night was a night for special awards. The most coveted, of course, is the Knight Award which was started last year.
The Knight Award recognizes an individual whose loyalty and support for Royal High School has no bounds. It recognizes a student who has gone the extra mile to make Royal High School the best it can be and has supported Royal students in their efforts to represent the school and community.
This year's recipient was Kai Jenks. On hand and to present the award was Jackson Noftle, the first recipient of the Knight Award last year.
Grant, who is one of the seven students who graduated with highest honors on June 5, totaled $78,577.50 in scholarships. She was awarded a Paul Lauzier Foundation scholarship, an Honor Society scholarship, the Seattle Pacific University Presidential scholarship and a SPU art, ministry and visiting scholarship.
Jesse Barrera received an Honor Society scholarship, a Dell scholarship, a Horatio Alger scholarship and an Andrea Grove Iseminger scholarship, totaling $35,849.
Yesenia Armengol received an Honor Society scholarship for a total of $632.50.
Giovanni Beltran received a Washington State Opportunity scholarship worth $2,500.
Cesar Bernal was awarded scholarships by Westinghouse Hanford and CBC soccer totaling $2,957.
Sarah Clouse garnered a Paul Lauzier scholarship, a REA scholarship and an Honor Society Scholarship totaling $2,841.
Kimberly Carrasco received an Honor Society scholarship for $627.
Carter Christensen was awarded an Honor Society scholarship for $649.
Chase Christensen received a $110 scholarship from the Honor Society.
Vanessa Corona received a Paul Lauzier scholarship, an Honor Society scholarship, the St. Martin's Chancellor scholarship and a Gala scholarship for a total of $22,796.
Samantha Eilers received scholarships from Paul Lauzier, DYW, ALAS, REA, Honor Society, Washington State Opportunity and WSU Excellence for a total of $11,747,50.
Andrea Farias was awarded a scholarship by Valley Fruit for $4,300.
Jacky Guadarrama totaled $5,428 on scholarships from Paul Lauzier, DYW, Dan Verhey, Royal City Lions and TRIO Upward Bound.
Kailee Harris received an Honor Society scholarship for $423.50.
Katrina Hernandez garnered a total of $2,672.50 on scholarships from Paul Lauzier, Orgullo and Honor Society.
Hannah Larson totaled $15,000 with the EWU Presidential scholarship and a Paul Lauzier scholarship.
Jacob Lee received the BYU Hawaii David O'McKay scholarship and an Honor Society scholarship for a total of $1,473.50.
Riley Lefler received a total of $3,835 from the Royal Boosters Association, Paul Lauzier, REA and Honor Society.
Francisco Marmolejo collected $2,995 total from Dan Verhey, Royal Slope Seniors, Honor Society and Royal City Lions.
Hugo Mata received $24,278 total from Paul Lauzier, CCM and Honor Society.
Teddy Mead was awarded scholarships by the Royal Boosters, Paul Lauzier, Willis Miller Memorial, ALAS, Honor Society, PSE, REA, Royal City Harvest foods and the EWU Presidential Award, totaling $16.604.
Tony Mercado received a scholarship from Sand Slope Acres for $500.
Liliana Moreno was awarded a $150 scholarship by Orgullo.
Guillermo Navarro received Weyns Farms and Paul Lauzier awards totaling $2,500.
Samantha Noftle was awarded a DYW scholarship worth $1,400.
Ana Ortega scored a SeaMar scholarship worth $1,000.
Rosalexi Rodriguez totaled $7,446 on awards from Paul Lauzier, EWU Dean, Washington State Opportunity, Orgullo, Honor Society and Royal PSE.
Daniel Rosas was awarded $715 by the Honor Society.
Vanely Ruiz combined Paul Lauzier and Washington State Opportunity awards for $4,500.
Kassandra Salas received the Yuriana Garcia Bloomsday scholarship for $1,500.
Carley Smith was awarded a scholarship worth $3,000 by Confluence Health.
Gerard Weyns received $5,000 combined from Weyns Farms, Washington Potato Foundation and WSU Excellence.
Bailey Workinger received $1,153.50 total from the Royal City Lions and the Honor Society.
The Honor Society awarded Yesenia Yepiz $429.
