QUINCY - A Quincy woman received minor injuries when she was hit by a single-engine plane attempting to take off from a road about six miles south of Quincy early Friday morning.

Rebecca Gregg, 57, Quincy, was taken to Quincy Valley Medical Center. Gregg was standing alongside the road taking pictures of the attempted takeoff, according to a press release from the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

The plane, piloted by Randall Grandpre, Osburn, Idaho, was attempting to take off from Road R NW, the press release said. Grandpre was not injured but a 13-year-old girl riding as a passenger received minor injuries, it said. She was treated at the scene but not transported.

The accident occurred about 6:40 a.m. "Grandpre decided to use the road as a runway because a field he would've used was muddy," the press release said.

But one wing of the plane hit an arborvitae plant alongside the road, which caused it to veer off course, the press release said. The plane veered off the road, hit Gregg, then crashed into the front yard at 6141 Road R NW. The plane never left the ground, the press release said.

The incident is still under investigation.
