Avis was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Perley and Eva (Williams) Wheeler. She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1952 and married her high school sweetheart, Mathew Allan Morice, May 23, 1953. They settled in Moses Lake in 1955 after being stationed in Alaska with the Army. Her busy life included raising four children in a house she helped to build and active involvement in her church. She discovered she loved making floral arrangements and her home was always surrounded with beautiful flowers. She often hosted friends in her home and formed a group for widowed ladies. She always had a hug and a smile and shared her bright personality as she ministered to others through volunteering at Serve Moses Lake, caring for the ill, and bringing cheer to her neighbors. Her strong faith and great sense of humor supported her through more than 30 years battling cancer. Possibly her greatest passion of all were her eight grandchildren and great granddaughter who brightened her life just as she brightened the lives of those around her.
Her life continues on in her family: daughter Diana Sue; son Mathew Paul, his wife Martha and their sons Andy, and Aaron, and Andy's daughter Tegan; son Jay Andrew, his wife Rhonda and their children Jordan, Devin, and Kirstyn all of Moses Lake; daughter Barbara Ann Mershon, her husband Jerry and their sons Tom and Chris and Tom's wife Amanda all of Georgia; her sisters: Ina Handford of Boise, Idaho, Lucille Alexander with her husband Bill of Seattle, and Barbara Vogt with her husband Armin of Rosalia, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
There to greet her in heaven were her husband; parents; grandson Allan, son of Mat and Martha; siblings Marian Reynolds, Lulu Bennett, Edna Wheeler and Don Wheeler. Memorials may be made to Serve Moses Lake, PO Box 548, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
