QUINCY - The donation of the Quincy Community Center was completed at the Port of Quincy's meeting this week. Commissioners Patric Connelly, Curt Morris, and Brian Kuest voted unanimously in favor of the final donation proposal.

The Port of Quincy now controls the community center, now known as The Quincy Valley Business & Conference Center.

The Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis clubs were willing to cede control of the QCC because it hadn't been generating any income. The Port plans to use the QVBCC to generate funds by hosting various business functions and maximizing the capabilities of the facility.

Commissioners also discussed plans for future work with the Economic Development Administration.

The commissioners are hoping this new stream of revenue will strengthen their pitch to the Economic Development Administration for a grant to remodel the community center building, according to Sherry Harrington, of the port.

In addition to obtaining the former QCC, the Port of Quincy made another move last week, submitting a formal purchase agreement to the Heartland Pharmacy. Approval is pending.
