Quincy, Warden to visit Knights team for Friday night football
ROYAL CITY - Official high school football may be three months away, but Royal Knights fans will be able to get a look at their team in action this Friday, June 12.
Quincy and Warden will be here for some interscholastic scrimmages at 5 p.m. at David Nielsen Memorial Stadiium. These scrimmages will be the end of spring camp for all three programs.
What you see Friday won't necessarily be exactly the same thing you will see this fall. Coach Wiley Allred uses spring camp and the scrimmages to determine which players might be most prepared when fall camp opens and which might need added attention.
On the other hand, football fans will see the makings of another state tournament contender. Junior Kaden Jenks, who has quarterbacked for two years, will be on the field. So will standout wide receiver Jose Ponce and several of the other boys who played last year.
In workouts last week, Jenks no longer looked like a class A prep quarterback. He has matured physically and is throwing the ball hard. College coaches are likely to be watching him this fall.
The added positive news for Royal is that his experienced receivers are catching the hard throws. They've grown up with him.
These should be competitive scrimmages. Quincy was an improved 2A program last year. Warden's Cougars always hit your hard.
