ROYAL CITY - While teachers at many school districts around the state, including central Washington, have walked out to protest the state legislature, teachers in the Royal School District have decided to remain in the classroom, Superintendent Rose Search has announced,

Over the past couple of weeks numerous teacher unions have walked off the job to protest what they say is the legislature's failure to fully fund education.

The Washington State Supreme Courts declared in the past that funding education fully must be the state's first priority. The question the legislature has to determine is what "fully funded" means. Most teachers agree the legislature is not there yet.

"The district appreciates the commitment of our educators and all the hard work they dedicate to teach the students of Royal," Search said. "The district hopes the Legislature complies with the McCleary decision to fulfill its responsibility to fully fund education across the state of Washington."

"Royal School District and the Royal Education Association are working collectively to fulfill our responsibility to educate students with the resources we have available in the most progressive way possible," Search added.
